SEG April 2016 Enews Update

April is busy with final preparations for Minerals North 2016. Smithers and Telkwa will welcome everyone on May 18-20. This newsletter tempts you with some of the events planned for the three days plus a couple of ways you can help out in connection with Minerals North 2016 including the NWCC fund-raising golf tournament. Also remember that the annual KEG conference takes place in a little over a week in Kamloops April 12 and 13 and then back in Smithers it’s the Northwest Trade Expo, staged May 6 and 7. The kind of outreach that Minerals North provides to non-industry groups is similar to what SEG does at the fall fair in Smithers - our booth pictured here will be replicated big time at Minerals North 2016.

Minerals North 2016 May 18-20 Smithers and Telkwa

ARE YOU READY FOR MINERALS NORTH 2016?

Minerals North 2016, co-hosted by Smithers and Telkwa May 18-20, is a little more than six weeks away and the conference is shaping up to be the best one yet.

Several pre-conference events have been planned and while the Huckleberry Mine Tour is sold out, many other interesting options remain. You can choose between a field trip to Telkwa and Goathorn Creek, two different events with Raven Rescue, a golf Tournament with Northwest Community College or fire side chats at AMEBC’s Gathering Place.  More information can be found here: http://mineralsnorth.ca/conference/programming/

The opening reception is going to be in Bovill Square on Smithers Main Street.  As in past years, you will not want to miss this opportunity to catch up with your business acquaintances and kick off another Minerals North.

The program itself will feature the regular regional geology updates and presentations about new exploration and new mines.  It will also offer lively and topical discussions around innovations in exploration and mining, community sustainability in the north, workforce development and working in a post-Tsilqot’in industry.  A lot of timely information will be presented throughout the day Thursday and Friday morning.

On Thursday, our keynote speaker is none other than marketing expert and broadcast producer Terry O'Reilly! A very passionate (and humorous) presenter, Terry will talk about the power of big ideas, and how those ideas can change perceptions and behaviour.  Catch him at lunch time on Thursday.

Thursday evening will see renowned Cuban-Canadian recording artist Alex Cuba perform. Alex lives in Smithers and tours extensively across North America and around the world. His music has gained rave reviews and won him multiple Juno Awards and Latin Grammies.

Make plans to stay for the whole conference for both the educational programing AND the great prizes.  With a grand prize sponsored by Central Mountain Air, all delegates are eligible to win a four pack of flights across the CMA/Hawkair/NT Air Network.  Second prize is a set of golf clubs sponsored by Wainbee and third prize is a gift basket from Barkerville.   Draws will be done at the closing lunch on Friday, but you must be there to win!

If you need a place to stay during the conference, visit Tourism Smithers for options:  http://www.tourismsmithers.com/sleep/

Northwest Trade Expo Smithers May 6 and 7

The Smithers district Chamber of Commerce stages its  annual Northwest Trade Expo in a little over a month.  The trade show runs  May 6 and 7 at the two Smithers arenas. For the first time in a while SEG won’t have a booth – we’re saving our energy for Minerals North 2016. But we appreciate our on-going partnership with the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce and their support for the minerals industry.  So drop by the arenas and check out the businesses that make Smithers the go-to place for the minerals industry.
