SEG June 2017 Enews Update

After the busy conference season and Mining Week in May, it’s good to be able to focus on the field season – like these students from Muheim School Career Days in Smithers who are drilling for gold and copper in cupcakes. Maybe everyone else is looking in the wrong spots! Don’t forget to book your time on the links in September with SEG’s annual golf tournament on Friday September 15.  If you’re in Smithers in late summer, drop by the SEG booth at the Bulkley Valley Exhibition August 24 – 27. Looking back a bit, we want to thank the partners in mining who helped support the Smithers Chamber of Commerce and SEG Mining Week luncheon. See the list below.  Also there’s an update available to SEG’s May information session on Imperial Metals remediation work following the Mount Polley Mine tailings dam breach.

Annual SEG golf tournament, September 15

Don’t forget about SEG’s annual golf tournament and banquet in Smithers on Friday September 15 at the Smithers Golf and Country Club. Registration will be on Thursday evening September 14. Details on the golf tournament will be included in the September newsletter and on the website as soon as everything is in place.

SEG booth at Bulkley Valley Exhibition, August 24-27

As usual Smithers Exploration Group will welcome the public to its booth at the Bulkley Valley Exhibition August 24-27. The annual fall fair draws terrific crowds from across the region, and we always get our fair share of visitors. The Guess the Gold contest is the big draw and last year almost 300 people tried their hand at figuring out which shiny rock was gold.

Thanks to all the partners in Smithers Mining Week luncheon

SEG and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce co-sponsored the annual Mining Week luncheon on May 12, with 115 guests helping us celebrate the minerals industry in northern BC. Thanks to Kevin Torpy from Pretivm Resources and Harold Bent from AuRico Metals for their presentations and to the Mining Suppliers Association of BC for sponsoring  the refreshments.

SEG also wants to acknowledge the many corporate sponsors who helped make the luncheon a success:

  • Altagas
  • Aurico Metals
  • Coast Mountain GM
  • Edmison Mehr Chartered Accountants
  • Hy-Tech Drilling
  • Imperials Metals
  • Mining Association of BC
  • Prestige Hudson Bay Lodge
  • Pretivm Resources
  • Seabridge Gold
  • Town of Smithers
  • West Coast Grill

Mount Polley update

In May SEG sponsored an update on the remediation work being carried out by Imperial Metals after the breach of the Mount Polley tailings dam several years ago. A new Community Update from Mount Polley is now available.

Also note that the 41st annual BC Mine Reclamation Symposium will feature a tour of Mount Polley on September 19; more information is available here: http://www.trcr.bc.ca/announcing-2017-trcr-symposium/.
