SEG September 2017 Enews Update

Welcome to fall 2017 and what better way to get into the swing than by golfing with SEG at our annual tournament on September 15 in Smithers.  Work has begun on updating our Northern Cordilleran Collection of Rock Suites under the leadership of former northwest regional geologist Paul Wojdak. Thanks for taking this on Paul.  Thanks also to the team who staffed SEG’s booth at the annual Bulkley Valley fall fair last week. And this newsletter includes some important updates on GBC’s TREK workshop October 17; TRAM public meetings and immediate August 30 employment opportunities at NWCC School of Exploration and Mining.

SEG’s Northern Cordilleran Collection of Rock Suites

SEG has hired Paul Wojdak P Geo to organize and catalogue its Northern Cordilleran Collection of Rock Suites. The rock suites were collected in the 1970s and are an important resource for the development of expertise on the geology of northern BC and ultimately the discovery of the next mines. Paul is already busy completing the cataloguing of the collection and has created a digital database to replace the old hard copy document.  SEG is fortunate to have someone of Paul’s expertise working on this important northern exploration tool. We’ll have an update at Rock Talk 2018 in February.

We also want to thank Middleton GeoScience for Mike’s help in making the collection accessible at Lorne Warren’s place – access to the old trailer to move the suites out; a tent to shelter Paul and new display trays. Thanks also to Lorne and Chris Warren for their support in this venture.

SEG booth at Bulkley Valley Exhibition, August 24-27

As usual Smithers Exploration Group welcomed the public to its booth at the Bulkley Valley Exhibition August 24-27.  Thanks to Lorie Farrell and Ted Vanderwart for staffing the booth.  The booth was an informative blend of geological information, training opportunities and outreach information.
