SEG and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce staged their annual Mining Month luncheon on May 6 to a sold-out audience. The theme was Exploration Industry Shops Local.
Smithers leads all other BC municipalities in attracting spending by exploration companies, and SEG, the chamber and the audience celebrated this success. Kendra Johnston, President and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration BC presented the study results. That was followed with a review by Elizabeth Miller Vice President of Sustainability with Seabridge Gold of its local spending commitment. Michael Mehr CPA of Edmison Mehr CPAs explained how local spending by the exploration industry is an important part of local business. Nate Corcoran Regional geologist with the BC Ministry of Energy Mines and Low Carbon Innovation summarized the 2021 exploration season and previewed what 2022 might hold.
