Roundup 2015
SEG booth success
Our booth at AME BC’s Mineral Exploration Roundup 2015 went off very well. Lots of people found us in our booth at the East Convention Centre. We distributed close to 700 directories during Roundup, so our sponsors have their information in the hands of people who need their services.
The SEG executive attended many of the presentations and brought everyone up to date on the Outreach work we have done over the past year with schools, communities and First Nations across the northwest.
The northwest will be well represented at AME BC’s board in the coming years. Christine Ogryzlo from SEG was elected to the board for three years and Sean Pownall from MoreCore Diamond Drilling in Stewart was appointed as the Northwest representative. He takes over from Harvey Tremblay, President of Hy-Tech Drilling as the rep from this area. Thanks to Harvey for his years on the AME BC board.
Thanks to Norma Jean Adzich for co-ordinating the SEG booth and her crew of volunteers for their help staffing it.. We also want to thank Bandstra for its ongoing support in getting the SEG booth materials down to Roundup and back home again.
Smithers Mining Week luncheon
May 8
Mining Week BC 2015 will take place across the province from May 4 to 9 and the annual Smithers luncheon will be on Friday May 8. The luncheon is co-hosted by Smithers Exploration Group and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce. It brings together the minerals industry and members of the larger community who support the industry to get the latest updates on the industry across the province and the northwest.
Tickets will go on sale in early April from the Chamber of Commerce at $25 a ticket. If you are interested in sponsoring the luncheon, please contact me, Christine Ogryzlo, at cogryzlo@telus.net
Minerals North Mackenzie
May 27 - 29
Minerals North 2015 will be in Mackenzie May 27 - 29 and planning is now underway. Check out http://mineralsnorth.ca/association/association-news/ to keep up to date on the conference.
The event provides an opportunity for local communities to showcase their capacity to service the mineral industry, for community leaders to learn about economic and policy issues that affect the minerals sector and for the industry to be informed of local issues and community goals.
Brown Bag lunches
For the past couple of years SEG has been co-ordinating what we call Brown Bag Lunches with various provincial ministries, as part of our Outreach program sponsored by the Association for Mineral Exploration BC. Several times a year SEG members and staff from ministries such as Energy and Mines and Forest, Lands and Natural Resource Operations meet for off-the-record information exchanges about issues important to the minerals industry in the north.
If you want to be notified of upcoming Brown Bag lunches, drop SEG Outreach co-ordinator Lorie Farrell a note at outreachsmithersexplorationgr@gmail.com
