Smithers Mining Week luncheon May 8
At the end of next week we’ll celebrate Mining Week 2015 with our annual Smithers luncheon on Friday May 8. Get your ticket now from Smithers District Chamber of Commerce for only $25. Call 250-847-5072 or e-mail info@smitherschamber.com
The luncheon is co-hosted by Smithers Exploration Group and the Smithers District Chamber of Commerce. It brings together the minerals industry and members of the larger community who support the industry to get the latest updates from across the province and the northwest. This year we have an added feature with an open bar from 11:30 to noon, hosted by the Mining Suppliers Association of BC, so arrive on time and partake of the refreshments.
The lunchtime program will focus on how businesses in the Bulkley Valley and on the lower Mainland depend for their success on the minerals produced by mining.
- Mining Association of BC President and CEO Karina Briño will set up the program with an overview of the minerals industry in BC in 2014.
- The Executive Director of Resource Works Stewart Muir will present a recent report that demonstrates how Vancouver business depends on natural resources from the Rest of BC.
- A panel of Smithers businesses will pick up that theme to talk about how they depend on minerals in everything from selling underwire bras and bikes to making cheese and alternative energy.
Please join us on May 8 at the Hudson Bay Lodge in Smithers. Don’t delay – get your tickets for only $25 and help celebrate the minerals industry in your business and life.
If you’re not going to be in Smithers, consider taking in one of the many other events around the province. Check out http://miningweek.ca/ for listings in Vancouver and the rest of the BC.

Thanks Tlell
We at SEG also want to take a minute to thank Tlell Glover for her work as co-ordinator with SEM. Tlell has recently accepted a position with the Province of BC as a Senior Resource Coordination Officer in the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation based at the Smithers Office. She promises to remain active with SEG where she is secretary and volunteer par excellence.
Tlell has been wonderful to work with and has brought a wide range of skills to her position at the school. She’s inventive, positive and hard-working. The SEM advisory committee will miss her but the industry will benefit from having someone with her level of industry understanding working with the Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation
